News: finally-properly moved into my studio this week! Can you believe?!

The cat is out the bag, officially!

I was awarded the studio in February right after my birthday, but imagine, i couldn’t work effectively as couldn’t afford furniture, and was in need of a table at least, so although doing my best to makeshift (perching on a tiny windowsill and my knees have been paying the price, cue: movement practice video on what’s helped that if you’re interested?)

Have urgently been on the hunt for furnishings via stuff people throw out, hoping something would show up for free-ninety-nine, mostly by the bins (realise it’s important to say to my north american friends that β€˜bins’ kind of translates to β€˜garbage’ which feels important for the next few paragraphs), yes, it me, on my daily silly-not-silly-little walks looking through someone’s trash i might be able to repurpose, call me β€˜vaskebjΓΈrn’* πŸ—‘βœ¨πŸ¦
*raccoon in Norwegian!

sidenote: am still chuckling at the slang for glasses being BINS and in all these years i never looked into why. Friends, spoiler, that BINS (i’m pausing to cackle and wheeze as i type this) is short for - BINOCULARS!!!!!!
- BABES I CAN’T BREATHEEEEEE πŸ˜‚ ok i’m back but that felt important to share

ok ok just one more sidenote: let’s call this one dionne’s tv recs:::::::: as i was sceptical about that new lil show β€˜Last One Laughing - LOL’ featuring comedians trying to make each other laugh for a prize and honestly, i recommend if u haven’t seen it, just get thru episode 1 and tell me about it when u get to the BINS reference please! v engerlish kulcha 😭

ok final sidenote - know i’m long overdue an inspo station so will compile some things which have been getting me THRU so will reign in this tangent…. πŸ‘“

Back to the heady storytime of table chat after a wander around the BINS: Luckily the curator at the art space had a table they were getting rid of, so went to collect it on the hottest day of the year and took a taxi (a rare and frankly thrilling luxury!) with new table (named her β€˜Hege princesse’) to her new home and she is beautiful and i can work! what a gift! i’m so grateful!

It’s still sinking in, a year for a space to focus on my art which feels amazing! I’ve never been able to afford a studio and space of my own and the tiny 1 bed we share is frankly difficult for so many reasons but we make art however we can right? But the luxury of a studio is something i have dreamed of for so so long.

We also have artists’ open studios in May - in case you’re around? I’ll put the dates for your diary below in case you happen to be nearby or even fancy a trip (ovs don’t expect you to make a trip for me lol but i know i’ve had the pleasure of being in the company of those who joined for yoga + creativity retreats and we got to hang out as well as those who have visited or who even live locally who i’ve been able to have a cup of something with and catch up!)

Anyway, preview is Friday 16 May 18.00 - 20.30
and opening days are Saturday 17 + Sunday 18 May 11-17.
all welcome.

Still processing…

Do you document your process and practice? If so, do you find it helpful?

I’m thinking that there’s quite a lot of you here who I’ve met on the blogging journey over the years ohmygoodness- decades now?! That’s weird to compute, had a That’s So Raven flashback…

Anyway

Feeling v lucky and grateful for that and this time and tech and tenacious roots in sharing our process and practice. ps i’m ALWAYS excited to read your blogs and letters so feel welcome to share yours with me, you can reply to this mail or post a comment!

I don’t know about you but I love watching a process video. I find it so relaxing and when i’m not hosting co-working-co-creating sessions i often work with one on in the background, for company i guess?! do you know what i mean? (if you do too, please share your go-tos!)

I also find process videos really hard to do with my janky adapted mic stand and makeshift claw setup, but i do find them useful for my own reflective practice of art making so I try anyway! So here’s something I’m currently working on from a few days ago! there’s also a soundtrack of some of the music i’ve loved listening to lately which i hope you’ll enjoy.
