Appreciate you for Being here.

I just heard the news that Harry passed…and although i’m knee-jerking this post, i do so with intention, the fire i feel when activated by his spirit and bravery which in turn, hold up a mirror to remind me of my own. our own. it’s something we cultivate, even when we might feel afraid or shy or bereft. So i shiver with feelings and type, trusting it meets someone who might also appreciate this reflection. may we feel resonance and remembering of ourselves, our connection, our impact. ✨🪞✨
i will sit with this grief and also gratitude for someone whose life impacted mine in such a specific way. i’m so glad i had the opportunity to get to know one of his daughters many years ago, and upon meeting her, i wept, telling her how much Harry meant to me. i remember it like yesterday, in that dark room, the dust lit up like glitter particles, dazzling in the light of the projector. she nodded, tearing up, and we held hands, squeezing tight, and we stood and cried together thinking about his impact.
I am grateful for the conversations with Gina, her spirit so clearly channeling that same fire. She shared stories of her father with me, as well as profound and caring words of encouragement my way, in a time i was struggling, trying to adjust to life in Norway and the hardships (especially the racism) i was experiencing…
Another reflection for another time, but for now, thought i’d share an old blog post from one of my online portals, from that time.
Thanks for reading, and please share any of your own stories / memories / reflections in the comments. 💜
SING YOUR SONG – IN HONOUR OF HARRY AND GINA BELAFONTE.
OCTOBER 20, 2011
I have the absolute HONOUR of looking after Gina Belafonte at this year’s BIFF festival. She is inspiring, real, beautiful and heart-glowingly amazing and dedicates her life to creating positive change in the world. This is even more poignant as her father is also such an inspiration to me. Check out this clip then the trailer for the film about his and other incredible people who have changed (and continue to change) the world.
