✨ In this edition of a space to land, I share:

📒 sketchbook peeks + field trips
🎨 why I keep working with cheap materials (even when I’m tired of making do)
👀 art thoughts: Hilma, Munch, and a side-eye at the western canon
💔 what happened with my art + yoga project
🌈 reflections on practice as portal, sanctuary, and resistance + why embodied drawing is a form of Spacemaking
🎟 an invite to Art Club // Alt Crit - a gentle space to make and share

Art Club // Alt Crit

Before we jump in, dear supporters of this space (which i hope is a better way of describing ‘paid subscribers' eh?) who are providing me with some much appreciated avocado today (no, really! your contributions directly help keep me going and for this i am grateful!)…

Let’s have a live meetup in the form of ART CLUB on Tuesday with a mini alt crit as a kick off to our gently welcoming in our Art Club // Alt Crits journey?

Time: 4-5.30pm BST (time converter here) with space to practice (make, create, express) and share. This can be something you’re working on outside the session or feel welcome to share what you were exploring in Art Club. Whether you’re a knitter who is also engaged in social practice, a songwriter who collages, dabbling with paint, words, fabrics or something else, you are welcome here. There is space for all mediums, modalities and crossovers.

I will send you the zoom link and reminder 24hrs before. Thank you, always, for your support and i’m looking forward to spending time together. 💜

Hi!

I’m practicing sharing some more personal parts here… i’m just trying to find a way to show up despite getting AI SPAM HATE - is the unprovoked hate i get from humans day-to-day not enough?!

We make space to feel it but also, let’s keep it moving cause i’ll never understand haters cause i’m a lovergirl and hope to remain in + continue to love. May we stay soft in a hard world. 🙏🏽💜

one of my muses ever-rooted in love which means she also holds space to honour and feel all her feelings: Empress Eartha Kitt

This post will be heavy on the images and reflections and i’m going back a week or so as i’ve attempted to revive myself amidst a lot of turmoil and very hard things BTS. But showing up for my practices (as i mentioned in my last post) helps me create more space where there feels like there is none.

So although effort, so. much. effort. is required, i hope/know it is worth it. i don’t think any time spent in practice is wasted. the practice is the process…right? …right?! hehe. i’m serious tho so i hope this meets and lands with whoever needed that reminder. ok let’s get into it.

What follows is a meander with drawings and video scattered throughout, some reflections on colour, history, and practice, and a few personal thoughts i’ve been working through.

Park, Life

Let’s hop to 13 July. Joined a gang of strangers in the park. my kind of ideal hang if i’m honest but i don’t mean dogging …can i say that here? Oh well...😭

Like me, these strangers also like to draw outside so we went to one of my fave locations and here are some quick sketches. i like working quickly, whole-self poured into an intense furious moment to absorb the environment and be in a full sensorial sanctuary.

Drawing is a form of movement meditation for me. it’s also a way of ‘thinking’. feeling. and processing. and of course, seeing. it’s opened up portals of possibility to be with hard things. it’s embodied and allowed more room and ways of Being- a form of Spacemaking, you know?

There’s lots i’ve written about this time of drawing practice as i teach myself and learn a lot on the road. but for now, here’s some photos from my sketchbooks.
